Mission Statement
Our mission is to inform, advocate, and protect people’s rights to safe and healthy reproductive services and to maintain a future in which all people’s rights are respected. Being an advocate for reproductive justice includes:
- preventative measures such as support for responsible sex education
- access to birth control and emergency contraception
- assuring maternal and paternal leave
- affordable child care services
- access to affordable pre-natal and post-pregnancy care services
- medicaid and welfare reform
- title x funding reform
- immigration law reform
- economic reform
- environmental reform
- transnational women’s rights
- access to information about sex
- options, looking beyond the bi-gendered system
- access to reproductive health care services such as AIDS/HIV and STI testing as well as well-person exams
- access to medically accurate information and the service of abortion.
Each advocate feels differently about which issues to address and disclude according to her/his own personal beliefs but every reproductive justice activist believes that it is not in the power of the government to decide what a woman, man, or transgendered person can do with their own bodies and their own lives.
Pro-choice is NOT ANTI-RELIGION or PRO-ABORTION. Pro-Choice means CHOICE. However, we must realise that not every person has a choice, and therefore Students for Reproductive Rights firmly supports the human rights framework of reproductive justice.
