What is Reproductive Justice?

When we asked what “reproductive justice” meant, our members’ answers varied greatly depending on personal experience.

Reproductive Justice is emotional, physical, mental, economic, social, and political and recognizes that the governmental control of reproductive systems and bodies violates all eight categories of human rights.

  • anonymous: “It isn’t just freedom for women, but freedom in general, for people to make their own decisions. It’s critical that it is LEGAL to do these opperations so that it doesn’t become something that people do in basements, and behind closed doors with out medical training. It’s going to happen whether its legal or not, so just keep it legal so that it is safe, and can be regulated at the same standards of hospitals, and women can be safe.”
  • Cortney McKay: “Ultimately, it is the woman who has to live with the consequences. It should therefore be her CHOICE to make, and not anyone elses. Abortion should not be a political decision, but rather a medical one, one between the patient and the doctor. Neither the President or Congress should be able to legislate such a life-changing personal issue. With choice you can choose life if you want. The important thing is that, that CHOICE to do so be an option.”
  • Natalie: “Being served the justice you deserve as a person and woman. having the power to choose and not be acted upon. Oh, and not having ignorant politicians force their conservative moral values on my uterus.” (senior, English)
